What does the section
Spot the Ad
help the reader understand?
By giving examples of times people have been tricked, the section gets readers to think about all the times he or she has been tricked into buying something they don’t actually want.
By providing possible questions they could ask themselves, the section gets readers to think about how they would know if they are being advertised to.
To test what the reader has learned so far, the section gives two examples of ads and one example that is not an ad, and then has the reader figure out which one is not the ad.
By giving examples of situations in which a consumer got free access to information and entertainment because of advertising, it shows how advertising benefits readers.
