Youth athletes prematurely returning to a game after sustaining a brain injury while playing could lead to even more severe, life-threatening traumatic brain injury. Athletes should not be told to return to the game if they have possibly sustained a concussion.

It is unacceptable for young athletes not to wear proper helmets while playing football. If they are wearing the wrong helmet, or are not wearing a helmet at all, they are at risk of sustaining a concussion.

Coaches who tell student athletes to return to the game must be confronted and notified that it is unsafe for an athlete who has possibly sustained a brain injury to play anymore.

Youths should not play football. Football is a dangerous sport that should only be played by adults who have been properly educated about concussions.
